about

A friend knowingly presses play or drops the needle on THE tape or THE vinyl record. It is a tradition as old as recorded music, a rite of passage. You hear a band that shifts your musical taste’s tectonic plates into a before and after. That is Forrest Fire. With their EP 'Box of Chocolates', Forrest Fire doubles down on how punk should confront the world with a crooked smirk. The frenetic and charming 5 songs distort and cymbal-crash their way beneath the seeringly memorable lyrics. Forrest Fire takes you into a bold new world of antiheroes and dystopian psychological terrains with winking mischief.
'1 BD APT' journeys into the mind of self-aware insanity, à la 'Notes from the Underground.' On 'Pretzels,' it’s not that Forrest Fire doesn’t like gluten-free cupcakes or kale salad, it’s that there needs to be an anthem declaring, “Pretzels are awesome! Fuck you!” On the 3rd track, 'Lauren,' the opening line tells you all you need to know about a love song brutally deconstructed—“All my problems are now your problems, now!” HBO’s elegiac opening music for Westworld is nice and pretty. Forrest Fire’s 'Westworld' gives a nod to the Ramones’ 'Beat on the Brat,' before it opens it’s travel brochure, inviting you to “Come to the Westworld/Nothing can go wrong!” Closing out the set is 'Troll,' an attack and narrative into the realm of Earth’s modern monster.
The EP 'Box of Chocolates' is an adventurous and humorous box of punk nuggets, where you never know what your gonna get, except the DIY attitude of Forrest Fire, rejuvenating the lost art of rock.
